Nexus One Software - What Software Runs on a Nexus Phone?

Nexus One is a very interesting and much expected phone. It runs on Android 2.1 and it is the hottest item in stores right now. But there are positive and negative impressions coming in. The question arises: what's the truth? People say that this is the real version of Android, suggesting that the other Android based phones were not so true to Google's standards. Many reviews say people are blown away by the capabilities of the new version. But the new Android 2.1 is not much different than the other versions. No significant revisions and you can easily mistake it for Motorola Droid (2.0.1) OS.

But the notable chances are more cosmetic rather than technical. There are major differences in that area between this Android OS and the Droid.

It seems that Google has invested a lot of time and energy into customizing the home screen navigation. The company got the feedback that the homescreen was a bit messy and decided to work on it. There is no sliding drawer to keep all the application icons. Now there is a handy "home" small icon that will fast zoom in on your icons. Using these icons you are able to scroll up and down. Plus, there is a nice 3D animation going on, and that's pretty helpful. The menu also has a small bounce effect that makes things much more interesting.

Plus, Google has increase the number of the home screens available from 3 to 5 now. There is also a pack of iPhone and webOS style dots that allow you to track them. If you press those longer you will view them and use the "car" view for quick jump.

This means a greatly improved user experience and increase accessibility.

Also, there is no multi touch capabilities in this phone. Maybe we can survive without that when we use Google Maps or some browser but not using a hardware keyboard hamstring. Also, one can not use some software programs like Nesoid, a NES emulator. Leaving that kind of experience to one digit only can be disappointing. But it all depends on your expectations towards this phone.

Many are wondering why Google did not do the multi touch support. What strategy lies behind this? Why not give us the way to interact from other devices? We can not know for sure right now. Maybe this is a feature to come in the next models.

All in all, Nexus One seems like a device that will comfortably allow you to use the applications, and even if there are some minor features missing, you will have an enjoyable customer experience and quite a friendly one, just like Google people managed to get us accustomed with, in all the past few years.
